Tom Yum!

Genre bender party boy/zombie (as my pictures might have you believe) Tom Yum played his debut set at Chinese Laundry on friday night, and for those of you who missed it, what an event it was. Kicking off his hour and a half set with some or the freshest and grooviest nu.disco bangers really got the crowd funkin' around early. It was the first time I have heard such tunes through the Laundry's speakers and i must say, it sounded superb, the set then time warped to present day with a little bit of tribal, b-more, and electro to close the show and the crowd were helpless. Their feet were moving, they couldn't stop it, they didn't want to and if i was given only one word to review the event, id have to say FUN. It was awesome, and I'm sure everyone else agrees with me.
Allow me to make myself clearer about this being his debut set, he's played before at the Ivy and a few other places around town, this was the first night under Tom Yum. This however was plain to see as his control of the crowd would suggest the work of a true pro.
Now, mr Tom being the kind man he is has donated me a couple of little mix tapes for the blog, and here they are ready for your download,

'In the Canopy' and 'Back to the Canopy', two nice, fun little tribal mixes for you and yours. Be sure to listen to them all the way through as there are some little gems hidden away inside there, I'm only gonna give one clue, Star Wars, that is all.

Fucking awesome work mr Tom Yum, be sure to keep it up, we all look forward to hearing more from you.

As usual, here are the photos...

  1. Hey Dan,

This is Stephen of UhOhDisco.com. In response to your question about the photo contest, yes things are definitely still happening, the main two of which are A) We're setting up for round two, and B) We're waiting on the teeshirts we ordered to arrive so that we can select a winner from the first contest and mail them about. Sorry it's taken to much time. We had a couple issues with the printer, and ended up splitting off and going about it our own way.

    Stay tuned!
