Introducing.

(It's 3 am and I should be asleep mix)

You know, I'm not going to say too much about this, (I'm going to let the DJ's Description do that), I will however say this, what a welcome change. Reminds me of a mix by Magic Happens (out of Adelaide) that was done a year or so ago, kept me clicking my fingers all the way through Europe (Thank you Modular Podcast). Here's what Jock has to say about it.

'Some nice italo/disco/post-disco/chicago/house songs for a bit of fun. Jackson Jones, Kathy Diamond and Padded Cell particularly good.'

He's also requested that i inform you all that the mix is not aimed at presenting the DJ's mixing skills (as the songs are played nearly all the way through) but more focused on track selection and the tracks themselves.

Tracks:

40 Thieves - Don't Turn It Off
Metro Area - Orange Alert (DFA Remix)
Five Letters - Tha Kee Tha Tha
Faze Action - Hypnotic (Disco Mix)
Kathy Diamond - All Woman (Vocal Version)
Jackson Jones - I Feel Good, Put Your Pants On
Anthony Mansfield, Nick Chacona - Oh Snap! (Greg Wilson Remix (Edit))
Chaz Jankel - Get Myself Together
Son Of Sound - No Retribution
Only Fools And Horses - Spectacle Wins (Holy Ghost! Remix)
Mekon - Boy Bitten feat. Rita Brown (Padded Cell Remix)

I love it personally. Lots of fun. Try listening to it on the way to work. :D

Hope to hear more from Jock in the future.

Dan.

ps. Comments welcome.

In The Mix: Top 50

It’s the list that Australia’s dance scene waits for with eager anticipation each and every year. It’s now time for you to cast your vote and make your voice heard, with the curtain raised on the 2009 Sony inthemix50. Who has rocked your world over the past 12 months?

Now in its seventh year the inthemix50 has become firmly entrenched in Australia’s club culture as the annual barometer for who and what is hot – and not – in the local dance music scene. It’s up to you to shape the outcome, so head on over to In The Mix: Top 50 and cast your vote!

Voting categories for 2009 are:

> Local DJ
> International DJ
> Local Producer/Live Act
> Club Night
> Festival/Event

By taking part you’ll also go into the draw to win the major voting prize; over $5,000 worth of gear from our friends at Sony! One lucky voter will take home a pair of MDR-XB700 Headphones, DCRSR47 Handycam Video Camcorder, VAIO NW Series Notebook, NAS-S55HDE Hard-Drive Hifi System and NWZ – X Series Walkman MP3 Player. Five runners-up will also win a pair of MDR-XB700 Headphones.

Now to vote for ME as your favourite DJ please follow this link, which will automatically put me down for your vote for Local DJ. You can vote up to three local DJs if you have any other favourites you want to add aswell... I'll be so appreciative if everyone took five minutes out of their time to vote for me...

NOTE: I am not doing this for a chance to be #1. I know i have just started out DJing and most artists find it stupid that I am even entering. But the reason I did enter is to see how many votes I did get, in referring to people viewing this blog, downloading my mixes, and making sure our blog is getting good recognition. I do not appreciate comments that I am amateur. I am quite clear that I am an amateur and I do not need to be told.

Vote for COOPA - In The Mix Top 50 DJS

Thankyou :)

Club Junque

2008 has seen the rise of one of Australias most avant-garde progressive tech artists. Club Junque has used his residency in the dark and brooding cave room at the Chinese Laundry in Sydney to bring himself to the attention of promoters and clubbers across the country with his unique melodic sound.

Club Junque is of course an antipodean moniker as his signature seamless soundscape is devoid of any throwaway club music. His support roster reads like a who’s who of international progressive heavyweights, having played alongside the likes of Booka Shade, Nick Warren, Anthony Pappa, James Zabiela, Nic Fanciulli, Lee Burridge, Guy J, Tiefschwarz, Carl Craig and Gui Borratto.

His debut EP is being released mid this year with studio cohort Neon Stereo and promises to showcase the sounds that have made him a late night favourite amongst many in the dance music community.

Not limiting himself to the lure of dusky backrooms, he is also a festival favourite, having been added to the lineup for the 2008 Foreshore Summer music festival in Canberra, Good Vibrations and Future Music Festival In Sydney in 2009.

So here it is, a couple of beautiful mixes by the man himself.

Darkbeat Global Underground Sampler

And if you're still wandering what all the fuss surrounding Club Junque is all about, check out his 2 hour set from last weeks party at Chinese Laundry, Exclusively at Hope You Enjoy The Show.

TV Rock: In The Air

You know you are half way to having a hit, when Pete Tong (DJ Idol for BBC UK) decides to give your song a spin as part of his "Essential Selection" radio show.

So what does it mean if he plays it two weeks in a row?

That's exactly what has happened with TV Rock's latest, "In The Air" featuring vocalist Rudy.

Not only is Pete Tong a fan, but the song is receiving plays from David Guetta, The Swedish House Mafia, Eric Morillo and Dirty South as well as remix master Axwell who has said that this is the biggest record in the world for him right now - Though he may be biased as he has already done a remix of it!

Originally penned in 2008 with Laidback Luke as a co-writer, the song originally had the working title ‘Amsterdam’ where the idea was first conceived. The track is the follow up to the club smash ‘Been A Long Time’ feat Rudy.

"Technology is a wonderful thing when you are collaborating with people from all over the world. The first vocal idea was sung into garage band and sent via ichat as I talked Rudy through the concept. We then wrote the record based on this and then he came and recorded the final studio vocals later and the rest is history!" - Grant Smillie

TV ROCK is made up by dance heavyweights Grant Smillie and Ivan Gough. In recent months in addition to destroying dancefloors in Australia and Asia the TV ROCKERS have been travelling the world, playing to millions including closing the Australian MTV Music Awards..

Hope you enjoy the show...

Michael Jackson: Rest In Peace

“In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.” - Michael Jackson

An Awesome Little Noise Experiment

So, here's something for you, its an awesome little glitchy breaky dubstep mix, i get the feeling there will be a mixed reception to this mix, but I'm going to post it anyway because i'd like to gauge reactions. It's quite experimental (by Sydney standards) but given our new found fascination with dubstep, i think its worth listening to, i personally love it, perfect blend of tech and dubstep.

AAAnyway, its by a man who goes by Sclist, i don't know a lot about him, but when i arrived home last year after my time in the U.K. breaks and dub were a new obsession of mine, i did a fair bit of digging and found two awesome forums for downloading some of the best underground stuff around, mostly from the U.S.A. ie. Dubstep FM who have a brilliant podcast with over 50 episodes each of which showcases over an hour of glorious dubstep hot off the vinyl press from all over the states and for those of you interested in this genre I seriously recommend subscribing through itunes and hearing what they have to say, every podcast comes with a tracklist too, so for those of you itching to drop some dubstep into your electro sets, you'll know what to do.

Another brilliant site i've come to love of late is breakstep.Duxdigital. Out of the UK, this forum is all about showcasing the latest in Breakstep (a mix of breaks and dubstep) which if like me, u like your bass wobbly and your breaks hard, is just perfect, however, you must log into this site to download, but its simple enough to do and there's no spam. Featuring the likes of Sclist, Forensics, Mantis, DFRNT, Miss Mik and several others its a beautiful site, and honestly, its nearly impossible to get everything off there, once again focussing on the more experimental or lesser known regions of the genre which Sydney has now come to crave.

If anyone has any other sites similar to this, i'd be keen to check them out, post them in a comment, any feelings towards this post are welcome to be aired once again through comments, please tell me if you want more of this, or if my words are falling on deaf ears.

Till next time, Enjoy Glitch Feast.

Funkagenda: Breakwater

If you haven’t heard of Funkagenda by now then where have you been hiding?
Over the last 3 years, he has become a name synonymous with quality house music. Already having featured on labels as prominent as Toolroom, Positiva, Defected, Azuli, Ministry of Soud, Size, Big Love and Subliminal, his production and remix skills are highly sought after worldwide.

And production is not the only string in his bow... His DJ talents are also a permanent fixture in clubs around the globe, with 2008 seeing him travelling to America, Canada, Rusia, South America, Romania, Poland, Spain, France, Israel, Serbia, Greece and many more in this year to come!

"Funkagenda is an outstanding talent, his sets can go from light and funky to dark and dirty in a seamless way that few Djs can pull off. Maybe its due to the fact that 50% of the records he plays are his own productions, which are without a doubt up there with the best! If asked to quote a name to watch for the future, Funkagenda is the first we think of..."
- Trophy Twins

Always re-editing and remixing tracks into his own style, his sets have a unique sound and began to catch the ears of many promoters around him, add to this the fact that his tracks are the flavour of the moment its no wonder he won best newcomer and best tune of the summer at this years Ibiza DJ Awards.
Currently enjoying huge support from the likes of Mark Knight, Pete Tong, Axwell, Dirty South, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and even Armin Van Buuren! Funkagenda is name is a driving force in house music today...

So if you have been hiding, here is the Breakwater release plus the remixes! I'll also add in some extras for your aural pleasure.

Armin: A State Of Trance

Now for those of you, who bought themselves a ticket for We Love Sounds Festival for 2009, are going to be extremely lucky to be able to witness one of the biggest headliners in dance music history, and to be lucky for a whole five hour set... I give you Armin Van Buuren.
Armin van Buuren has been named number one in the prestigious DJ Top 100 poll twice in a row, in 2007 and 2008 - voted for by over 350,000 people across the world, an indication of his prolific output over the 10 years he’s been dj’ing and producing. Being the official World’s Most Popular DJ is just one of his many achievements, but the driving force behind his success is an overriding passion for dance music.

“I loved dance music immediately, but it’s not just love for music, it’s my passion. It goes beyond liking, and beyond a hobby, it’s about a way of living. Music is essential to my life”.

Now for the listeners out there who are into this uplifting genre, then I have a special treat for you. I was going through all of Armin’s A State of Trance (radio broadcasting show he puts on every week, to around 70 different countries, blasting out a two hour set! And I believe he is now up to show #406!) And I’ve picked out some fantastic releases from Armin himself, plus some ASOT classics that you’ll enjoy and will most likely hear this weekend at We Love Sounds.
