Deadmau5: For Lack of a Better Name

One of the best things about Deadmau5 is the DJ has a sense of humour...

Unlike some of his best-selling, much-hyped music making counterparts who seem to take themselves way to seriously, Toronto's Joel Zimmerman wears a giant mouse head in public (instead of a sleeveless tops and sunglasses) and creates house music with character!!

Case in point: For Lack Of A Better Name. Don't get me wrong, this isn't joke music like Felix Da Housecat or even Mr. Oizo. This is completely relevant, seriously danceable shit, but there's something lighthearted about the way he uses disco-styled orchestral flourishes, organs and thwamping bass lines that make this album such a great party.

The only questionable move here is his change of direction mid-album, where Deadmau5 slips into Euro-minimalist progressive house. For Lack Of A Better Name lulls at that point, but thankfully picks back up with the epic 10-minute final track (Strobe). It's hard to believe such quality house is coming out of Toronto. But then again, it's been happening quite a lot lately...

These are my three favourite tracks from the album, I hope you enjoy!!
